Round Two of the ten-week Lead Painters League over on Lead Adventure Forum didn’t go so well for me, but at least the Blood Bowl dwarf team my reporters lost to was full of unique figures well painted!
The reporters are from Pulp Figures, of course.
The 7th Lead Painters League contest continues for another eight weeks over on LAF. It’s a fantastic contest on a great forum; I compete to force myself to push my painting up a notch and get stuff painted and finished! My Round Three entry is in already and will go up over on LAF Sunday morning; Rounds Four and Six are done except for basework and photography; Round Five is going to take most of the time before it’s deadline to complete, as it’s a bonus round with a big crowd of figures to finish off! Beyond that I have enough figures in progress to cover Rounds Seven through Ten, although I’m still debating what to do for bonus points and a spectacular finish in Round Ten… wish me luck!
They’ll let anyone enter Lead Painters League now eh? I thought they had made it more strict to enter. It certainly is difficult to paint that much, I think the way to win it is to not blog or tweet or post for many months and build up a backlog of figures well groups of 5 or more figures. I entered a couple years ago and I just couldn’t keep up, the stuff I really want to paint or need to paint doesn’t fit into groups of five. One way to go might be to paint 40 or 50 man unit and enter them 5 at a time, problem is, the voting public won’t reward that and you’ll not get the bonus points.
I always refuse to enter greatest hits in painting contests and now I haven’t painted in over two years so who knows if I have any skillz left.
Good luck in round 3, I got the call to vote, but I didn’t get the call to vote for round 2…
The threshold now is three teams (Rounds One, Two & Three) in at once to qualify. Given we’ve only got 30 participants that’s obviously more of a barrier to entry than before, but it’ll also cut down on the surprising number of folks in previous LPLs who entered one team and ran the same flippin’ team for ten rounds, which got really, really boring.
You would get bonus points for entering five-figure chunks of a larger unit, provided each set of figures was new. The voting members of LAF might get bored of the repetition, though.
Round Three so far is going quite well, and I’m confident of the figures I’m putting into Rounds Four & Six. Round Five is going to take a lot of time over the next two weeks before it’s ready, though! — Brian
I quite liked both of your submissions (and voted accordingly). I’m new to the League but am enjoying myself so far. Like you I’m finding it fun planning out my entries and getting figures done which I might not otherwise have put on the hobby desk. I’m not completely sold on the format of the League but, hey, I don’t have to administrate it.
Round 5 is done but 4 still needs some work. Must get back to it!
